Tom O’Hagan, Founder and CEO
Tom O’Hagan is a leading figure within the telecommunications industry and has worked in the sector, both in the UK and internationally, for more than 15 years.
In 2012, Tom was named a ‘Young Gun’ by Growing Business in its annual list of the top 30 young entrepreneurs in the UK and in June 2013, Tom was awarded ‘Channel Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the Comms Business Awards.
Jason has worked in the Telecommunications industry for over 20 years. Having held senior roles for companies such as Energis, Vodafone, COLT and most recently Virgin Media Business where he was responsible for building the Indirect Channel Division. Jason is now responsible for Sales Strategy, execution and building significant scale within Virtual1.
Jason’s interests include fitness training, participation in most high energy sports and playing Golf.
Simon Durrant, Business Development Director
Simon has worked in telecoms for more than 15 years in a career that has seen him work for telecommunications companies based both in the UK and abroad. As Business Development Director at Virtual1, he is responsible for strategy and business development, and has played a crucial role in building the business’s reputation for customer focus.
James Hickman, CTO
James is a well established member of the telecoms industry. Before joining Virtual1 as Chief Technical Officer, James worked as Head of Technical Consulting for Telstra International, developing and implementing highly complex global WAN and hosting solutions for clients in the UK and internationally.
James is Chartered by the Engineering Council and the British Computer Society, is an associate of many industry bodies and in 2010 was appointed as an Arbiter for RIPE.
Magnus brings a great skill set to our finance and accounting team from his experience at World First and previous positions at Deloitte, Hutchison Whampoa, Carphone Warehouse and Minit operational Board.
Magnus has extensive experience managing financial affairs for high-growth companies, most notably at World First, as Group Finance Director, leading a team of 30 to grow the business by 400% in just 4 years.Magnus is responsible for continuing the growth strategy of Virtual1, capitalising on the increasing demands for cloud and connectivity solutions in the wholesale marketplace.
When Magnus isn’t scrutinising figures, you can find him either watching tennis or rugby, scuba diving or salsa dancing.
Stephen is a renowned figure in the IT and Telecoms industry, gaining considerable experience through his work at Bridgehouse Capital where he has acted in a variety of roles including Senior Vice President at Global Switch and Managing Director at PSINet Europe and later at NaviSite Europe. Stephen currently shares his time between the pursuit of new investment opportunities and providing structural and business improvement advice to a number of Bridgehouse Capital portfolio companies.
Jim Sewell, Non Executive Director
On leaving Manchester University Jim joined Alternative Networks as a start-up in 1994. As Group Sales Director Jim helped grow Alternative over 20 years to become one of the largest resellers in the UK, with a product set covering data centre to edge devices. Jim ran sales, products and marketing during his time at Alternative.
Having volunteered in 1989 in Zimbabwe for a charity called Restless Development, a charity focussed on putting young people at the heart of development, Jim has been a trustee for them for the last 6 years and left Alternative Networks in 2014 to help Restless Development as a volunteer. Jim is supporting a new Entrepreneur Panel, bringing together Businesses and Entrepreneurs in the UK to support livelihood projects in Africa.
Jim is married with 3 children and in any free time takes part in long distance cycling challenges, coaching a school triathlon team and also enjoys sport and fun in general.
